Dalle strade pulsanti di Nicosia prende vita il progetto musicale Nābu Pēra, trio che fonde tradizione e contemporaneità in un linguaggio sonoro originale e sorprendente. Composto da Savvas Thoma (bendir, voce), Natasa Hadjiandreou (vibrafono, percussioni) e Demetris Yiasemides (flauto, sylphyo, elettronica), Nābu Pēra nasce a Cipro con una missione chiara: riscrivere il modo in cui ascoltiamo e interpretiamo i paesaggi sonori che ci circondano.
Il loro album di debutto, in uscita il 10 ottobre 2025 per l’etichetta discografica italiana Zero Nove Nove, si intitola “Soundscapes of Nicosia” e sarà distribuito sulle maggiori piattaforme digitali da Believe e disponibile in formato fisico Cd e Lp con distribuzione Self (Italia), Inouïe (Francia), Xango Music (Belgio, Paesi Bassi e Lussemburgo).

Nicosia, l’ultima capitale divisa d’Europa, è una città attraversata da confini geopolitici e culturali, dove convivono storie complesse, tradizioni greche e turche, influenze mediorientali e tracce di un passato coloniale. Questo crocevia unico di culture e tensioni è al tempo stesso terreno fertile per la sperimentazione artistica: una città ricca di contrasti, dove il passato e il futuro si sfiorano continuamente. È in questo contesto che nasce il suono originale di Nābu Pēra, radicato nell’anima mutevole della città e, al tempo stesso, proiettato verso il mondo.
Il paesaggio sonoro urbano, troppo spesso ignorato nell’incedere frenetico della vita moderna, è in realtà lo specchio dell’identità di una città. È composto da un intreccio complesso di suoni, alcuni antichi e altri generati dalle nuove tecnologie, che raccontano storie, emozioni e trasformazioni. Nābu Pēra invita l’ascoltatore a rallentare, a risvegliare i sensi, a prestare attenzione, a riscoprire questi segnali invisibili che definiscono il carattere profondo del luogo in cui viviamo.
World music, sì, ma filtrata attraverso una lente personale che unisce musica classica contemporanea, improvvisazione, beat elettronici e tradizioni mediterranee. Il risultato è un universo musicale stratificato, dove flauti ambientali, percussioni poliritmiche, vibrazioni elettroniche e voci evocative si fondono in un’esperienza d’ascolto immersiva e multisensoriale.
Concepito come un invito a ridefinire il proprio rapporto con l’ambiente uditivo, Soundscapes of Nicosia è un percorso che conduce l’ascoltatore in una scoperta sensoriale della città di Cipro, esperienza rara persino per chi ci vive o ci è passato. I suoni familiari ma spesso trascurati – come il ritmo dei passi, i richiami lontani, il brusio elettrico – vengono trasformati in materia musicale, aprendo nuove prospettive di ascolto. Registrato presso l’Hot Soap Studio di Larnaca, l’album è il frutto di un’intensa ricerca e di una collaborazione tra musicisti provenienti da percorsi differenti, ma uniti dalla volontà di offrire al pubblico qualcosa di autentico, moderno e profondamente radicato nella realtà mediterranea.

The Nābu Pēra music project, hailing from the vibrant streets of Nicosia, is a trio that blends tradition and modernity into an original and surprising sound landscape and language. This unique crossroad of cultures and tensions is also fertile ground for artistic experimentation: a city rich in contrasts, where past and future constantly collide. It is within this context that Nābu Pēra’s original sound sprang forth, rooted in the ever-evolving soul of the city yet, at the same time, radiating out to the world.
The urban soundscape, too often ignored thanks to the frenetic pace of modern life, actually reflects a city’s identity. It is composed of a complex interweaving of sounds, some ancient and others generated by new technologies, which recount stories, emotions, and transformations. Nābu Pēra invites the listener to slow down, to awaken the senses, to pay attention, and to rediscover the invisible signals that define the profound character of the places we inhabit.
It is World music, indeed, but filtered through a personal lens that blends contemporary classical music, improvisation, electronic beats, and Mediterranean traditions. The result is a layered musical universe, where ambient flutes, polyrhythmic percussion, electronic vibrations, and evocative vocals blend into an immersive, multisensory listening experience.
Conceived as an invitation to redefine one’s relationship with the auditory environment, Soundscapes of Nicosia is a journey that leads the listener down a sensorial path of discovery of the city of Cyprus, a rare experience even for those who live there or have passed through it. Familiar yet often overlooked sounds — like the rhythm of footsteps, faraway memories, an electric buzz hovering in the air — become transformed into musical material, opening up new listening perspectives.
